I have served on the Community Council (Ubuntu) since March of 2012; first as a replacement for someone who stepped down and then through election. The Community Council is tasked with the governance and conduct of the Ubuntu Community. The entire council is staffed by very intelligent, committed and dedicated individuals who care deeply about the Ubuntu Community. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with them. I learned a great deal about the dynamics of large open source communities that span the entire globe.
I believe strongly that governance bodies composed of elected leadership function best when leadership is dynamic and individuals do not hold positions for a long period of time. Fresh ideas, new points of view and fresh faces avoid stagnation, and encourage continued growth and energy. Based on this belief I gave my commitment to people that I would not serve beyond two terms in any elected leadership position in the Ubuntu Community. Today, I am announcing that I am honoring that promise and will not stand for re-election to the Community Council.
The Ubuntu Community needs energetic and committed people to stand for election. If you would like to know more about the position and responsibilities please see call for nominations thread in the community team mailing list.
